I have posted my book review of James M. Renihan's Edification and Beauty: The Practical Ecclesiology of the English Particular Baptists, 1675-1705 (London: Paternoster, 2008) to my academia.edu site. You can find it here.
The review appeared in the Reformed Baptist Trumpet, Vol. 1 No. 2 (2010): 12-14.
I have also recorded a spoken word version of the review to sermonaudio.com. You can listen to the review here.
Pastor Riddle,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your helpful book reviews. Now that you have reviewed both Poh's A Garden Enclosed and this book by Renihan, what are your thoughts on both of their historical assessments of the English Particular Baptists? Is there another historical book you would recommend in addition to those two on this subject of Ecclesiology?
Bryant
Bryant, I think both authors make good points on PB ecclesiology but am sympathetic overall to Poh's views, not just on historical but, more importantly, on Biblical grounds. Another resource to recommend: John Owen's "The True Nature of a Gospel Church" in vol. 16 of his Works. I have a simplified and abridged version of this as "Gospel Church Government" (Grace, 2012).
